About this blog

I started this blog in 2011. At the time, the intention was only to document our trip to Florida and the mighty Disney World. I thought it might be a useful discipline to give some shape to a journey which was very much of a first for me. First time to the USA; first time for very many years on an aeroplane; and very much the first time I’d contemplated spending that much on anything as frivolous as a holiday ! The rest, as they say, was history. I loved the US, its people, food, driving habits and roller-coaster rides and the blog was lots of fun. Whether it was quite as much fun to read is open for debate but some people were kind enough to say nice things. However, once the Florida thing was over the blog sort of fell into disrepair. Other things took over and it didn’t feel like there was much of interest to say. I’ve always had a suspicion that blogging – for the average person anyway – is a mixture of narcissism and self-exposure. Psychoanalysis for the Facebook generation if you like. And with bad grammar.

Anyway, whatever the motives, I decided it might be fun to have another go at this. Not least because 2013 promises not one, but two trips to The Wonderful World of Walt. Yep, we are going back to Florida in August and before that, as a sort of late winter warmer, taking 5 days to sample EuroDisney in Paris. I’m not sure that the experience will be the same hurtling round the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster in full overcoat but we will see. It will also be interesting to see if Disney’s US take on customer service survives the journey across the Atlantic (and the Channel).

That won’t be all, though. In the interim I will talk about some of the other things that interest and concern me. I’ll try to avoid full-on navel contemplation, but there are always the comments boxes (or the ‘unfollow’ one if that fails) if you don’t like it. Needless to say, any views herein are very much my own and no-one else’s. Well…..
